Stories of normality #7 / three sisters

I recentlydid a portrait shoot that gave me so much satisfaction, as a photographer as well as on a human level. And I realized that to meet all together is as extraordinary as it is normal.

I leave it to the beautiful words of Francesca Ghiotti Faravelli to convey emotion and savor theportrait shooting experience with me:

“At Christmas last year I received a gift: a family photograph taken by a photographer.

Me together with my mom and sisters. Mah… I thought, what’s the use of a photographer we are all full of cell phones, cameras etc… ? and what’s more I never look good in photos, I don’t really recognize myself.

Luckily for me there was time to organize and since there had to be 5 available there was no need to worry too much, it was not easy to find the date and nothing would get done. Winter passes, summer passes.

Then a week ago, caught almost off guard, I found myself with a date and a venue…trapped!

So this morning, with no desire and no hairdresser, I went to the appointment.

Two hours of light, pleasant, homey photo set, between laughter and coffee with a nice, smiling photographer, a girl from Bratislava, Jana Sebestova , who has made photography an art form not only of photography, also a bit Zen because during the set you forget everything as in meditation.

And for the first time, we three sisters with Mom found ourselves doing just the silly thing of making up funny poses and expressions. For the first time a magical almost play time all together. Jana was in tune, not at all formal, like a friend among us.

I had made myself a shield of prejudice and luckily fell into the trap. Now I am here looking back on this morning and wondering what other biases are stealing magic moments from me.

And in the meantime I feel gratitude for Anna and Monica and Mom and Jana, because by the way the pictures I saw were beautiful and no, so with a cell phone they wouldn’t have come at all.”

thank you from the bottom of my heart, francesca!
