How to prepare for a headshot

How to prepare for a headshot

Guidelines for preparing your professional portrait.

The goal of an impactful headshot (close-up portrait) is to capture you being yourself at your best moment. Your uniqueness will help make you stand out from the crowd. With the right lighting and better angles I will accentuate your natural beauty.

On the day of the shoot, it is important that you arrive ready and well prepared, so that your investment of time and money and my commitment will turn into the best portrait you have ever had with an easy and enjoyable experience.

  • Choose looks that represent the role we want to portray with the new photos.
  • Favor neutral colors and darker tones without patterns or designs for at least one outfit.
These do not distract attention from the face.
  • The fit of your clothes is important. Clothes that are too loose or excessively tight are to be avoided.
  • Quality fabrics that hold their shape well and long or 3/4 sleeves always work best. For your second or third outfit, feel free to try some colors and perhaps a more casual outfit. It can be a turtleneck or a simple top of good quality.
  • No logos – obvious logos are absolutely to be avoided.Bring what you like to wear and we will choose the ideal combination for photos. The most important thing you must feel beautiful and comfortable.
  • If you use glasses and have multiple pairs, bring them so we can try multiple frames and lenses.
  • Keep your makeup and hair natural; don’t try a new hairstyle or makeup just before your portrait.
  • Arrive well rested and relaxed. It will be a pleasant and enjoyable experience.

If you are doing your own makeup, use light but neat makeup. In my opinion, natural makeup that simply emphasizes your natural beauty is best. Eyeliner, par example, can be particularly distracting in a portrait. But always best to rely on my trusty Gloria, the makeup artist.

Bring some lipstick and/or lip gloss, plus some base and powder to add or touch up.

Bring the jewelry you love or wear all the time. We will shoot with and without jewelry. Sometimes nothing or small jewelry is better to eliminate distractions that take away from the attention of your eyes.

Bring at least two jackets and a few shirts, without patterns and not too loose. Remember – ironed collar. Wear a couple of ties without too much pattern (unless it’s not really your style).

Take what you use for hairstyling with you.
A fresh shave helps a lot!

My method

I want you to come out 100% satisfied. This requires openness and cooperation.

It is very helpful for me for you to tell me if there is something you do not like, in your face or in your hair for example. Don’t hesitate to talk to me about it: this will allow me to find the best angle and expression for you!

➡️ Bring some old photos with you where you like yourself, this may also help me to achieve the expected result!

I am looking forward
to find
your best side!
